Grace Over Grind: Learning to Rest Without Guilt

I’ve always been that girl — the one who doesn’t stop until everything is perfect. The planner, the doer, the fixer. If something needed to be done, I was already halfway through it before anyone even asked. I think it’s that Jamaican part of me. My parents and grandparents are all the same way.

But lately, I’ve been learning or I should rather say, God has been teaching me that I can still get ahead by operating from a place of rest.

The truth is, rest isn’t laziness. Rest is obedience. It’s a bold act of faith that says, “God, I trust You enough to stop striving.” For so long, I believed my productivity proved my worth — that if I wasn’t constantly doing, I wasn’t enough. But God has been teaching me that His love doesn’t come with performance points.

Even Jesus, in all His power and purpose, took time to rest. He withdrew to quiet places, not because He was weak, but because He understood that divine strength flows from stillness. And if the Son of God needed that rhythm of rest, how much more do we?

Resting, for me, has looked like unlearning the pressure to always be “on.” It’s taking a day off without explaining myself. It’s choosing to worship instead of worry, to breathe instead of burnout.

I’ve discovered that rest is actually holy resistance — a way of saying, “I refuse to let the world’s pace control my peace.” The hustle might build your platform, but rest builds your foundation.

So if you, like me, have been wired to hustle, maybe it’s time to let God rewire you for peace. Because rest isn’t a reward after the work — it’s part of the work.

Have you been struggling to slow down lately?
