To simply answer this question… No. I don’t have baby fever. I’ve never had baby fever. I’m too aware that with all the cute smiles and cuddles comes a great deal of work! Raising a child or children can be physically and mentally exhausting. My mom raised me by herself and I’m just learning all she sacrificed for my sake. Personally, I don’t think I’m willing to make those types of sacrifices but also I realize in this day in age, we don’t have to. I believe a woman can be an amazing mom and still pursue and live her best life. In fact, I believe that it is better for the child to see his or her mom living a happy and fulfilled life.
When I imagine my family, I’ve always seen children in the picture. I’ve always told God that I want twins because I don’t want to be pregnant more than once. Let’s just get it all done in one shot. In my search for knowledge, I’ve learned too much about the challenges of pregnancy that have scared me beyond understanding up until this point. But I’ve used my mouth to make powerful decrees concerning my pregnancy and delivery. It will be a smooth, pain-free experience with no negative health implications. So now, I am ready to receive.
I guess those are some of the things that have stopped me from having baby fever. Don’t get me wrong. I am very maternal. I would make an amazing mom. I’m extremely patient, caring, organized, and funny. I also believe that I have a lot to teach my children. And somehow, I feel like my child would be such a blessing to the world.
I love that I didn’t have children when I was younger. I was a fool back then.. It would’ve been a fool raising a fool. Not only that, but I had some serious anger issues. I remember I used to be excited about having children so I could beat them. My friends and I would talk about how we couldn’t wait to beat our children. Imagine having such desires. I clearly had some issues. Thank God, He has raised me to maturity.
Being in Nigeria, the pressure for marriage and children is far greater than in North America. My mom has never even asked me about grandchildren whereas my mother-in-law and I have had many discussions about it since even before we got married. It’s expected that as soon as you get married the next thing is children. There’s no confusion as to why this country has such a large population..lol! Many believe that the scripture “Be fruitful and multiply” only refers to having children ..the fruit of the womb. It’s more than that though. Being fruitful means productivity and growth and in the next part of the verse he talks about how…subdue the earth, rule over the fish and birds and every creature that crawls. God wants us all to have a well rounded full life…. But I think I’ll save that discussion for another post.
Let’s talk in the comments. There are so many positions on this matter, I wonder what you think.
